ABSTRACT


Research in self-confidence in sports psychology has been conducted with various theoretical frame work and has largely focused on mediating effect of confidence on cognition affect and behaviour in sports.  The purpose of the study was  to  assess and investigate  the locus of control at different level of confidence of university level male cricketers. Three hundred and fifty inter-university level male cricket players were selected as the subject of the study. Sports Self-confidence Questionnaire (Trait sports-confidence inventory) prepared by Vealey  (1986) consisted of 13 statements and Inventory of Factor influencing Sports Career prepared by Kamlesh and Sharma (1986) were  employed to collect data  from male cricket . To assess the status of inter-university level male cricket players. Descriptive statistics were computed. F-ratios was  used to determining the significance of difference in locus of control locus of control based on level of self confidence. The results of the revealed that the inter-university level male cricket players with different levels of self-confidence differed significantly  in  their  internal locus of control. The players higher in self-confidence  gave more importance to task-orientation and were more internally controlled.
